A.I.M. High Park renaming ceremony to honor late judge

Jul. 8—Late judge Julian Ridlen will be honored during a special renaming ceremony at the Adolescent Intramural Mentoring (A.I.M.) High Park, 2496 E. County Road 125 North, Sunday evening, July 10.

The parks new name is the Julian Ridlen Aim High park.

The ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. in the park and will conclude before the beginning of the 4-H Queen contest at the Cass County Fair, which begins at 7 p.m.

A special announcement will also be made during the ceremony concerning the park's future.

The park was originally created by the Honorable Julien Ridlen as one of the many programs he developed for area youths.

Ridlen was born in Decatur, Illinois, going on to earn a B.A. from Anderson University and studying at the Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C.

He started his career as an attorney in 1968 and was elected as a city court judge in 1971, serving two terms. He then served as Indiana state treasurer in 1978.

Indiana governor Robert Orr would appoint Ridlen as the chairman of the Indiana Housing Finance Authority.

Ridlen was devoted to many community organizations, including the Red Cross Board, the Kiwanis Club, the Youth Services Bureau, the Mental Health Association and Calvary Presbyterian Church.

Judge Ridlen passed away on Oct. 10, 2017 at the age of 77.

A fireworks presentation will take place in the park at 9:30 p.m. to honor the new queen, the fair and the park.
