Bayern Munich midfielder Thomas Müller believe that Germany can claim the title at the Euro 2024 on home soil this summer despite the team's recent disappointing performances.

"We can do it, yes. I'm convinced of that. Nevertheless, everyone involved in German football, and especially us players, need to get off our high horse a bit," the player told the Sport Bild weekly.

"We've lost the sense that we have to push ourselves to the limit at every moment on the pitch. Even as Germany, even with our technically gifted players," he said.

Germany open the month-long tournament on June 14 against Scotland, with Hungary and Switzerland their other group stage opponents. Germany went out in the round of 16 at the last Euros, in the group stage of the last two World Cups, and won only three of their 11 games in 2021.

Müller, however, doesn't want to dream of a summer fairytale like it was the case of the 2006 World Cup, when Germany finished third and the country was fully standing behind the team.

They would do well "not to wallow in the past and hope for fairytales," he said.
