‘I’m ready to go’: Jalen Suggs to play in Magic season opener vs. Spurs

Orlando Magic rookie Jalen Suggs plans to play in the regular-season opener Wednesday on the road versus the San Antonio Spurs after recently dealing with a stomach virus.

Suggs missed the preseason finale last week against the Boston Celtics due to the illness and did not participate with the team in a few recent practices. He has since returned to practice to ramp up his preparation ahead of the season opener.

On Tuesday, Suggs said he will be ready to go in San Antonio.

I’m good. I just had a little stomach virus, a stomach flu. I got over it, took a couple of days. I couldn’t really do much but rest, get fluids in you and let it pass. I’m good now. I feel good. I’ve been in the gym the past few days, got up and down a little bit. I ran, got my feet under me and I could shoot. I’m all good. I’m ready to go.

Suggs logged 22.6 minutes per game during the preseason, and figures to see a large role to begin the season. The Magic will be without Markelle Fultz, Michael Carter-Williams and E’Twaun Moore in the backcourt, meaning Suggs could see plenty of minutes.

Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley said the team will find some minutes for Suggs on Wednesday and continue to monitor how he is feeling following his stomach bug. Based on what Suggs said, it sounds like he’ll be able to handle whatever is thrown his way.
