Monday, Manuel Foggie was at Soin Medical Center to get his fiancee checked out for the injuries she suffered during the Smashburger incident. They had to get their two-year-old daughter’s broken leg taken care of first Sunday night into early morning Monday.

Foggie lives in Fairborn. He said he took his fiancee and their three girls, a two-year-old and seven-month-old-twins, out to dinner.

That is when Butler Township police said a guy came into the restaurant over some sort of argument with an employee, both men pulled out guns, and the employee fired one shot, missing the guy he was arguing with.

In the chaos, Foggie shielded his oldest daughter from the gunfire, broke her leg, and injured himself.

Foggie told News Center 7 what it is like for his family to have to deal with this kind of physical and emotional trauma.

“It’s hard because this is something you don’t think that you have to prevent a two year old from even being in this environment, especially going out to grab dinner, and all we just keep playing back is the restaurant worker telling us we better duck, we better duck or unless we’re going to get hit with bullets,” Foggie said.

Foggie continued by saying, “every time I think about it, I get nauseous, I get sick because my two-year-old is going around she’s seen guns for the first time and all she going around is saying, ‘I’m scared. I’m scared.’ As a father I’m supposed to protect my child. Her going around saying that she’s scared, I don’t know how will continue to protect her.”

He said they have been talking to police to help them with their investigation. Right now, it is unclear whether anyone is facing charges just yet in connection with the shooting.
