México en el Corazón concert returns to Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — After almost three years, “México en el Corazón” returns to Lafayette and will be performing Saturday at the Rohrman Performing Arts Center in Jefferson High School.

The event is free to the public and is set to begin at 6 pm. Doors will be open at 5 pm.

“México en el Corazón 2022” will host performances from Ballet Folclórico Guadalajara, Mariachi Femenil Estrella de México, and Banda Colores.

México en el Corazón is a cultural initiative organized by The North American Institute for Mexican Advancement. The goal of the event is to highlight Mexican culture to new communities with performances that include traditional dances, music, and songs, as well as an artistic program that highlights the states of Aguascalientes, Zacatecas, and Jalisco.

The cast is made up of the Ballet Folclórico Guadalajara, under the direction of Master Ismael García Ávila; the Mariachi Femenil Estrella de México; the Banda Colores; and other surprise guest.

Lafayette is only one stop for the cast’s 2022 International Tour. Earlier in the year, the cast departed from Guadalajara, Jalisco, and made their way through the West Coast, performing in several cities in California, Nevada, Washington, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico.

The cast is currently embarking on the second half of their international tour, visiting several towns throughout the Midwest and Texas.

The México en el Corazón 2022 tour was created in collaboration with the Government of Guadalajara, National Council of Jalisco Federations of the United States, and Federation of Jaliscienses of the Midwest of the United States; with the support of the Government of Jalisco; Canelo Energy; the University of Guadalajara USA Foundation; the National Museum of Mexican Art; the City of Aguascalientes; and El Salto, Jalisco.

Organizers have dedicated this year’s tour to the Braceros – Mexican laborers who came to America via the Bracero Program in 1942 – and agricultural workers.

“Together we are recognizing their effort, work, and sacrifice that made them the forerunners of the great Mexican-American community in the United States.”
