México en el Corazón set to perform at the Long Center Tuesday

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — As part of their eastern United States tour, “México en el Corazón” will return to Lafayette and perform Tuesday at the Long Center for the Performing Arts.

The event is free to the public and the performance starts at 6 p.m. Theater doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Mexico en el Corazón is a cultural initiative created by the North American Institute for Mexican Advancement. This organization was founded in the United States with the goal of enriching and sharing the cultures of Mexican and Mexican Americans with communities across North America.

In 2023, Mexico en el Corazón will feature dances, music, and songs from the states of Jalisco, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Nuevo Leon and Chiapas, including a mariachi, Norteño band, and the marimba.

The performers include: the Ballet Folklórico Guadalajara, with Ismael Garcia Avila as the conductor; the Mariachi Juvenil Colotlán; Banda Colores; and the band Pepe y sus Pepillos. The marimba is played by the Mario Nandayapa Quartet. This allows a thorough lineup that represents Mexico across the country and brings that feeling, nostalgia, and celebration to the event.

Unlike last year, Mexico en el Corazón’s only stop in the Midwest was Lafayette Indiana during their international tour. This year Mexico en el Corazón for their Eastern U.S.A. tour, will be performing in Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee, New York and Texas.
