NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio Fires Investigations Commissioner

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio fired New York's investigations commissioner, Mark Peters, on Friday afternoon, weeks after an independent investigator concluded Peters had abused his power and then "abused his truth" in an internal turf fight, The New York Times reports. In a prepared statement, de Blasio said Peters engaged in “intimidating and abusive behavior,” made “misleading statements” to the City Council, and conducted himself “in a manner indicating a lack of concern for following the law.” The Times reports Peters was called into a meeting Friday with the first deputy mayor, Dean Fuleihan, and asked to resign. According to the newspaper, no other mayor has removed an investigations commissioner in recent memory.
