At a time that U.S. stock markets are partying like there is no tomorrow, global bond markets, together with actions by the world’s major central banks, are telling a very different story. Stock-market investors would do well to pay heed to those warnings. A clear sign that global bond markets are highly concerned about the European economic outlook is that a record US$5 trillion, or around half, of all European government bonds now offer negative interest rates.
