The UK and EU agreed a Brexit deal that may be dead on arrival

The UK struck a draft agreement with the EU to try and deliver Brexit at a decisive summit today that runs until tomorrow. The deal has reportedly scrapped the Irish backstop, which would have tied the UK to the EU’s customs union until a wider free-trade agreement was reached, and was one of the main obstacles to winning support in the UK parliament in the past. The Northern Irish Democratic Unionist Party (DUP)—a partner to Johnson’s Conservatives in the minority government—said it does not back the deal.
