M3GAN screenwriter Akela Cooper has landed the first deal after the end of the writers’ strike with her adaptation of Jack Follman’s unpublished short story, It’s Over.

The film tells a story of a hard breakup for a long-term couple, but it comes with a humorous horror edge complete with social commentary. According to Deadline, Sony Pictures bought the film for an amount between “the mid- to high-six-figure range.” Vertigo Entertainment and Ground Control will produce the film.

Deadline wrote that the short story went up for bidding Wednesday, the first day after the writers’ strike. According to their report, several writers spent the strike writing spec scripts for the story in order to be prepared for when the strike ended.

Cooper is quickly becoming a mainstay in the horror genre with her latest project, The Nun II, starring Storm Reid, in theaters. She is also working on M3GAN 2.0 and serves as co-executive producer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
