Mackenzie's double-double helps LCU beat Dallas Baptist

DALLAS — Rowan Mackenzie had 24 points and 10 rebounds and Lubbock Christian University rallied late to overcome Dallas Baptist 73-69 Saturday in Lone Star Conference basketball.

Russell Harrison added 20 points for LCU (12-6, 8-4), which scored the last 10 points of the game, eight on free throws.

Dallas Baptist (10-10, 5-7) trailed by 17 points late in the first half, but led 69-63 after Cameron Kahn made two free throws with 3:46 left. The Patriots went scoreless from that point on, losing their fifth game in a row.

Najeeb Muhammad and Mackenzie scored four points apiece in the last 3:20. Two free throws by Muhammad with 1:31 left put the Chaparrals ahead 70-69.

LCU got 11 points from Kurt Wegscheider and nine apiece from Aaron Gonzales and Muhammad.

Kahn, Carson Hughes and Ta'Jay Dunlap scored 15, 14 and 13, respectively, for DBU.

Texas Woman's 75, LCU 69

DENTON — Ashley Ingram scored 20 points and gathered eight rebounds, leading seventh-ranked Texas Woman's to its 15th consecutive victory.

Scout Huffman added 12 points for the Pioneers (17-1, 12-0).

Shaylee Stovall scored 18 points for LCU (13-7, 8-4), including a 3-point goal with 1:18 left that moved the Lady Chaps within 71-69. Sadie Moyer and Ariyanna Hines made two free throws apiece for Texas Woman's to close it out.

Audrey Robertson scored 14 points for LCU, and Maci Maddox and Grace Foster added 11 apiece. The Lady Chaps trailed 40-24 early in the third quarter, but Maddox nailed a 3-point goal that gave LCU a 50-46 lead with 1:02 left in the third.

Wayland women 87

UNT-Dallas 34

PLAINVIEW — Kaitlyn Edgemon had 24 points and 12 rebounds and Wayland Baptist walloped the University of North Texas-Dallas in a Sooner Athletic Conference game at Hutcherson Center.

Jenna Cooper-Jackson supplied 14 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists for the Flying Queens (12-7, 8-5). Ashlyn Shelley chipped in 14 points, and Taryn Shultz had 12 points and six assists.

Kaylyn Minor scored 15 points for UNT-Dallas (10-6, 8-6), which was held to a season low output. The Trailblazers beat the Flying Queens in the first round of SAC play in Dallas.

PLAINVIEW — Tedrick Wolfe poured in 24 points, D'Michael Bellfield was good for 20 and Wayland Baptist knocked off the University of North Texas-Dallas, the second-place team in the 12-team Sooner Athletic Conference.

Parrish Hewitt added 15 points and R.J. Mason 10 for Wayland (13-7, 8-6), which won its third game in a row.

Vernon Johnson had 13 points and 12 rebounds for UNT-Dallas (12-5, 10-4), which had won four games in a row and nine of its previous 10.
