Mackinac Co. man accused of ‘online relationship’ with Texas 12-year-old, bestiality

MACKINAC COUNTY, Mich. (WJMN) — A Mackinac County teenager has been arrested a host of crimes after accusations of exchanging sexually explicit media with a young girl who lives in Texas, according to the county’s sheriff.

Mackinac County Sheriff Edward Wilk sent the notice to Local 3 Wednesday afternoon. In the message Wilk explained that the report that “an 18-year-old Portage Township man was engaged in an inappropriate online relationship with a 12-year-old female in a suburb of Austin, TX.”

The following investigation lead to authorities determining Kelton Paul Salowitz of Curtis, MI had been sending and receiving sexually abusive photos and videos with a girl under 16 mostly over the social media app Discord.

Sheriff Wilk said several search warrants were executed, revealing hundreds of photos and videos of what he labeled “child sexually abusive material.” it was also revealed that several other child victims were uncovered, all who were known to the first reported victim.

Salowitz has been arraigned on 25 counts:

  • 10 counts of Child Sexually Abusive Activity (Aggravated)

  • 11 counts of Child Sexually Abusive material (Possession)

  • 1 count of Child Sexually Abusive Activity (Distributing or Promoting)

  • 2 counts of Using a Computer to Commit a Crime

The sheriff says a video was also found of Salowitz “engaged in a sexual act with a dog.” For that, he has been charged with 1 count of Sodomy (Bestiality).

Salowitz’s bond was set at $250,000. His next hearing in court is set for March 9.
