MACKINAW CITY — From wins and trophies to record breaking performances, Mackinaw City senior Madison Smith knows how to keep a good thing going.

The all-time leading scorer at the school, Smith has put together five seasons – that’s not a typo – of standout varsity basketball, averaging at least 11 points a game each year.

In the three previous years, all-state honors have come Smith’s way and on Monday evening, Smith kept a good thing going with a fourth consecutive all-state season.

Smith was named first team Michigan Associated Press Division 4 All-State Monday with the release of its girls basketball squads.

She joins a host of athletes out of Northern Michigan making the two teams, including Inland Lakes senior Natalie Wandrie, also a first team recipient.

Smith helped lead the Comets to a 25-2 record and quarterfinal appearance this season, coming just four points shy of a Breslin Center run.

She averaged 16.1 points, 10.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists a game, to go with production on the defensive end in 3.6 steals and 3.5 blocks a night.

Along with being the program’s all-time leading scorer, Smith is also the career blocks and rebounds leader at the school.

A dominant volleyball player as well, Smith will play collegiately at Saginaw Valley State University.

Wandrie led the Bulldogs into the regional championship against Mackinaw City, with the Bulldogs finishing out a 20-6 record behind their senior guard. Inland Lakes captured the school’s first district title since 1992 behind a 38-point performance from Wandrie.

She also finished as the leading scorer in Inland Lakes girls hoops history and topped 1,000 points for her career early in her senior season.

An all-state softball player as well, Wandrie will play softball at Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky.

Maple City Glen Lake’s Ruby Hogan was named the AP Division 4 Player of the Year after helping the Lakers to a D4 title just a couple weeks back.

Hogan averaged 18.9 points, 5.3 assists and 5.3 steals a game for the Lakers. Glen Lake teammate Maddie Bradford was also a first team all-state selection and head coach Jason Bradford was named the Coach of the Year in Division 4.

Bellaire’s Jacey Somers earned first team and Engadine’s Leah French was also a second team selection.
