Macon man charged with stealing Dodge Challenger, helping inmates escape Bibb County jail

Deputies arrested a man this week and charged him with stealing a Dodge Challenger and helping four men escape the Bibb County jail last week, arrest warrants show.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office accused Jakaylen Billy Ray Williams, 24, of stealing the Challenger from a local Enterprise rental car business and helping inmates escape from the downtown Macon jail.

It was unclear in the warrants if investigators believe Williams cut the fence that allowed the four inmates — identified as Joey Fournier, 52, Marc Kerry Anderson, 24, Johnifer Dernard Barnwell, 37 and Chavis Demaryo Stokes, 29 — to escape last week.

The warrants did not connect Williams stealing the Challenger to his role in the jailbreak, though deputies did find and seize a Dodge Challenger last week that is connected to the shooting, the sheriff’s office said.

Williams’ address was listed at the Baconsfield Apartments on Tidewater Circle behind the east Macon Kroger where the Challenger was found.

Williams was booked into the Bibb County jail at about 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to the jail’s inmate search system. He was originally arrested Saturday in Monroe County and held there for four days, according to the Monroe County jail website.

Connection to Monday morning shooting

The arrest comes after Bibb sheriff’s deputies, U.S. Marshals and a Bibb County SWAT team confronted Christian Williams, 23, at a Vineville apartment complex Monday morning.

Deputies went to the Pines Apartments next to Holt Avenue because they were tipped that someone in the apartment — later identified as Christian — could help lead them to the escaped inmates, sheriff David Davis said Monday.

When deputies and U.S. Marshals approached the door, shots came from inside the apartment. They retreated and returned with the SWAT team to find that Christian had shot himself, according to a news release.

Deputies also arrested a woman named Mykia Williams, 20, Monday for helping the four inmates escape last week, an arrest warrant said.

It was unclear in the warrants or Bibb County jail records if Jakalayen, Mykia and Christian Williams were related.

The four inmates were still on the lam Tuesday morning more than a week after the Oct. 16 escape.
