‘Mad Max: Black & Chrome’ is George Miller’s dream version of ‘Fury Road’
Most anyone who saw it in theaters will tell you that Mad Max: Fury Road was the best movie of the summer, but it wasn’t the movie that director George Miller wanted you to see. Not exactly, anyway.

In a Q&A session earlier this year, Miller told the audience that “the best version of this movie is black and white,” but since they only had the orange desert and the blue sky to work with, they knew they’d either have to oversaturate the movie (which is what they ended up doing) or go full black and white. Otherwise it’d be “really tiring” to watch.
Sadly, despite Miller telling Slashfilm that he’d demanded the studio allow him to include a black and white version in the Blu-ray, that version never made it on to the disc.
Thankfully, the Internet was there to pick up the slack.
This week, an anonymous Vimeo user uploaded a black and white rendition of Fury Road which is going by the name Mad Max: Black & Chrome. It’s the completely desaturated film that Miller wanted us to see, without a single word of spoken dialogue from start to finish. Here’s what the creator has to say about it:
“George Miller has said that the best version of his film is in black and white, with no dialogue. BLACK & CHROME is an attempt to realize Miller’s alternate vision. The cinematography, the editing, the sound design, and the score, are now represented in a completely new experience.”
