Madden's bike lifts Walsh to win over Buckeye; Manchester and Stow golf dominate

BOYS SOCCER

Walsh Jesuit 1, Buckeye 0

If opening nights are any indication, Warriors fans might be in for a wild ride.

Moments after the Bucks had a goal called back for offsides on Tuesday, Carter Madden gave Walsh the goal that might be talked about for quite a while.

The junior collected an attempted clear by Buckeye's defense and bicycled it into the net for the game-winner. The shot came from the left side from 17 yards out, and the ball evaded the outstretched arms of keeper Keegan Lockard and popped just under the bar.

Freshman keeper Quinn Anderson kept it that way and the Warriors walked off with the road win.

Medina 4, Toledo St. Francis De Sales 0

The host Bees opened their season with two goals in each half and a win under first-year coach Doug Coreno.

Nate Werthmuller scored a goal on a penalty kick in the 27th minute and Kyler O'Reilly netted a goal in the 35th minute. Ian Kaczmarek and Danny McCashin each scored a goal in the 60th minute.

Coreno previously served as Medina's girls coach and led the Bees to a Division I state championship in 2009.

Riverside 3, Brunswick 1

Evan Busicnki gave the Blue Devils (1-1) a one-goal lead at the start of the first half, but Brunswick couldn’t hold on in nonleague play.

Harvey 8, Nordonia 1

Byron Perez had a hat trick and assist for the Red Raiders and Kevin Fonseca had one goal and four assists to lift the Harvey in nonleague competition.

GIRLS SOCCER

Brunswick 5, North Ridgeville 4

Brooke Allen scored four times for the Blue Devils (1-1) and Kiley Deighton added another in a nonleague game.
