With 111K followers on Instagram, her status is certainly rising. Here, find everything to know about season two rookie, Maddy Brum.

She is originally from Massachusetts

Maddy grew up in Dracut, Massachusetts and graduated from Dracut High School. Here, she won four state championships with her school’s cheerleading squad.

She has been cheerleading for nearly 12 years

Maddy joined her hometown’s squad, the Dracut Pop Warner cheer program, at seven years old. She then trained at East Celebrity Elite in Tewksbury, Massachusetts.

She signed with Navarro College in 2019

Maddy never anticipated leaving Massachusetts, and expressed in the first episode of season two that it was difficult to make the move to Corsicana, Texas. But it was her childhood dream to cheer for Navarro. Under the guidance of Coach Monica, she knew that she would strengthen her cheerleading skills and prove to herself that she was meant to be there.

Her signing moment is documented in episode three of season two.

She is a top girl/flyer on the Navarro cheer team

The top girl, or flyer, is the one lifted and thrown in the air during stunts. They energetically twist and flip mid-air, placing trust in their bases and spotters to safely catch them. As depicted in season two, she made mat for the 2020 NCA Championship in Daytona, Florida.

She had a difficult upbringing

It’s revealed that Maddy’s family struggled financially and that they moved frequently while she was growing up: “I don’t even know how many houses I’ve lived in my life,” she said.

Maddy described her childhood as “tough,” divulging that her mother was once arrested in her school’s parking lot. “It wasn’t anything bad. She just stole the license plates off someone else’s car,” she shared.

It’s also disclosed on the show that when Maddy was young — her specific age is not mentioned — her father was sent to prison on sexual assault charges. He is prohibited from leaving the state of Massachusetts.

Throughout the turmoil, cheer is what gave Maddy’s life “consistency.”

She works extremely hard

Maddy is described as a perfectionist by her teammates, who marvel at her talent in the show’s sophomore season. Being from the Northeast, where cheerleading is not as prominent of a sport as it is in Texas, Maddy knew she had to work extra hard to make herself known.

“If I didn’t keep pushing myself as a cheerleader, I probably would have never left Massachusetts,” she said in episode three.

“I always knew I was gonna go to ECE [East Celebrity Elite] and I always knew I was going to go to cheerleading practice,” she continued. “I don’t know where I’m sleeping tonight, but I know tomorrow at six o’clock, I’m going to cheerleading practice.”

She coaches at her hometown gym, East Celebrity Elite

According to Cassie Bienvenue, East Celebrity Elite Gym co-owner, Maddy is the “by far the most decorated athlete” to have trained at ECE. The gym is described as her home-away-from-home, the place where she sought stability as a child.

In the show, viewers get a glimpse inside Maddy’s hometown and learn that she offers private lessons for the young cheerleaders at her gym.

She performs on an All-Star cheer team

While Maddy is still cheering for Navarro for the 2021-2022 season, she is also a member of the Wildcats, a Cheer Athletics All-Star Team in Texas. On November 7, 2021 she posted a video to her Instagram with the following caption: “First blue debut as a CA wildcat💙🤩.”
