The parents of Madeleine McCann, a British toddler who vanished nearly 15 years ago, will investigate the claims of a Polish woman who believes she is their daughter, according to a report.

Madeleine was on a vacation with her family when she was was snatched from Praia de Luz, a resort in Portugal’s Algarve region, the night of May 3, 2007.

The toddler’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, had left her and their two other children sleeping in the apartment while they went to a restaurant nearby. They returned regularly throughout the evening to check on the children — but when Kate returned around 10 p.m., she discovered the door flung open and Madeleine nowhere to be found.

In the years since her disappearance, authorities have failed to track down the missing girl. But earlier this month, a woman named Julia Faustyna rocked the internet when she started posting on Instagram under the handle @iammadeleinemccan.

In one of her first posts, Faustyna explained that while she does not remember most of her childhood, she still has memories of a holiday on the beach, with white or very light-colored buildings and apartments. She goes on in future posts to compare her physical traits with those of McCann, who like her, has a small and distinct splotch on her right iris.

“I have similar eyes, shape of face, ears, lips, I had the gap between the teeths,” she wrote.

A spokesperson for the McCann’s parents declined to comment when approached by the Daily Beast, but a friend close to the family confirmed they are willing to follow up on the lead.

Faustyna celebrated the news with a line on the top her Instagram page: “Kate and Gerry McCann agreed for DNA test!”
