Madeline Manning Mims recalls influential conversation with Athing Mu years ago

In 1968, Olympian Madeline Manning Mims became the first American woman to win gold in the 800-meter race. Team USA runner Athing Mu joined her in the history books this week during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Mims recalls the skill she saw in Mu before the Games. “I don’t see anyone in the world with that potential,” she says.
