Madera sheriff’s deputies are asking for help finding Odin, a police dog who escaped his home in Clovis early Sunday.

UPDATE: The Madera County Sheriff’s Office said K-9 Odin was found Sunday night near Ashlan and Clovis avenues.

ORIGINAL STORY: Madera County sheriff’s officials are asking for help finding Odin, a police dog who escaped his backyard kennel early Sunday morning.

It happened about 4 a.m. at a Madera deputy’s home. A video camera caught images of Odin climbing over the top of his 6-foot kennel and a 6-foot backyard fence.

Odin is a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois and weighs about 75 pounds, authorities said in a social media post. He is described by his handler as being even-tempered and social. He was not wearing a collar or Madera County Sheriff’s Office identification.

Deputies said Odin has experience with the public and children.

Odin was last seen in Fresno, near Cedar and Bullard avenues, deputies said.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kayla Gates said the sheriff’s office is using every available resource to find Odin.

“We have volunteers going door-to-door in the area,” she said, adding that other law enforcement agencies have been alerted as well.

Gates said everyone is concerned about the dog’s well-being because he is out alone on a 100-degree day.

“We want Odin returned as soon as possible.”

Anyone who sees Odin is asked not to approach him, but to call 559-675-7770.
