Madison County nonprofit celebrates 75th year of service

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – This year, Christmas Charities Year Round (CCYR), a nonprofit serving people in need in Madison County, is celebrating 75 years of service.

“We have a clothing closet at our facility by appointment. We also have a mobile closet that goes to the schools,” executive director Beth Haynes explained. “We provide free, durable medical equipment to those in need, and we also do assistance with toys for children and gifts for seniors at Christmas time.”

The clothing closet is available to anyone in Madison County who lives below the local median household income, which is $71,000.

“You call us and make an appointment, and adults can come every six months and kids can them every three months to get clothes,” Haynes said. “Our mobile closet goes to Madison County and Huntsville City Schools, and we work with a guidance counselor to set those up.”

Beginning Friday, January 26, First Stop, Inc. partnered with CCYR to bring clothing to those struggling with homelessness at no cost.

Every other Friday, CCYR will bring its Mobile Closet to First Stop’s new facility at 206 Stokes Street.

“It is something they saw a great need for, and instead of duplicating a service since we have the ability with our mobile closet, we can easily go out there and help them with that,” Haynes said.

Right now, CCYR needs all types of clothing, but specifically children’s clothing size 4T and up, especially boys’ pants. However, they are always accepting clothing donations.

To donate clothing and coats, drop them off at CCYR’s office at 3054 Leeman Ferry Road Suite P in Huntsville anytime Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

They also accept monetary donations on its website.

The nonprofit will also be celebrating its anniversary with several different events throughout the year.
