CHICAGO — Tracey Kevins made 23 calls, and one of those went to 2021 Madison grad Taylor Huff.

The United States U-20 Women's Youth National Team coach saw something in Huff that Richland County soccer fans saw for four years and invited her to be a part of a 23-player roster in Chula Vista, California, from May 11-19 for two matches against Costa Rica on May 15 and 18 as part of closed-door scrimmages.

Huff will play in both scrimmages as well as participate in training camp with hopes of representing her country in the 2022 FIFE Under-20 Women's World Cup on Aug. 11 in Ghana. The final draw for the tournament was held last week in Costa Rica, and the USA ended up in Group D alongside reigning world champion Japan, Netherlands and Ghana, according to SoccerWire.com.

The U.S. has already earned its spot in the World Cup with seven straight qualifying victories and a 49-0 goal differential. It was the seventh regional title at the U-20 age level.

Huff will be one of six forwards trying to make the team. If she does, she will spend the summer training out of the country on the national team and will represent the U.S. at the U20 World Cup in August.

It is the first call-up for Huff, who is one of eight players to receive invite No. 1 of the 2021-22 cycle. The roster is made up of 14 collegiate players and eight youth club players.
