MARSHALL - Madison High principal David Robinson passed away unexpectedly Jan. 25.

Superintendent Will Hoffman said Robinson, 54, was taken by ambulance to Mission Hospital on Jan. 25 and died that evening. A cause of death is unknown at this time.

The superintendent informed school staff of Robinson's death in an email:

"David was a lifelong Madison Patriot, a strong educator, a musician and artist, and a friend. David’s faith was his foundation, always present, and given expression through his love for his wife Wanda and their kids Ashley, Alex and Audra. And he was so proud of his grandchildren. I remember one Friday night standing on the sidelines with David this year and he said, 'Do you want to see something beautiful?' and we turned around and his grandchildren were on the front row of the stadium, waving to him.

"He was right, it was beautiful. There are no words that can adequately describe how shocked and devastated we are by this loss today. The only consolation is knowing that Dr. Robinson did a lot of good with the time that he was given, and although way too short, we are all truly blessed by the time we had with him."

Robinson was in his third year as MHS prinicipal. He served as principal of Madison Early College from 2010-15, followed by a stint as principal of School of Inquire and Life Sciences at Asheville.

According to the superintendent, Rhonda Cuthbertson will serve as the school's interim principal.

Hoffman said more information on Robinson's funeral service arrangements would be made later Jan. 26.
