Madison, Morenci track and field compete at MITCA state meets

CLARE — The Madison boys and girls track and field teams both took part in the Division 3 MITCA state championships on Saturday.

The hosts, Clare, took first on both sides while the Trojans' girls took fifth with 714.5 points and the boys took sixth at 1,051.5. The Pioneers' girls won with 900 points while the boys won with 1,384.5.

Leading the girls was the 4x200-meter relay team of freshman Nevaeh Parish, sophomore Tatum Wilson, sophomore Jillian Kendrick and senior Abby Weber as they won with a time of 1:49.86.

On the boys side, senior Sean DeLeon won the intermediate hurdles with a time of 40.66. DeLeon was joined by junior Jamari Williams, junior Carter Grof and senior Isiah Casarez-Ruiz to take second in the 4x400 at 3:32.72.

Senior Xavier Soss took third in the shot put at 48-feet-2.5-inches.

Morenci at Division 4 MITCA state championships: At Mount Pleasant, the Bulldogs' boys and girls teams competed at the Division 4 MITCA state championships where they each took seventh.

The girls team posted a total of 574 to trail White Cloud's top mark of 966 while the boys scored 741.5 to trail Athens 1,073.5.

The girls 4x800 team of senior Libby Rorick and juniors Leah Rorick, Kiana Castillo and Neili Pike won Morenci's lone state title on the day with a time of 10:21.77.

Leah Rorick also took second in the intermediate hurdles at 51.7 while Libby Rorick was second in the long jump at 15-01. Pike took third in the 800 at 2:32.24 and junior Clarissa Berger took third in the discus at 103-05.

The boys 4x100 team of senior Logan Benner, junior Cody Wagner, senior Carsyn Varga and junior Brodie Pike took third at 46.2. Senior Trey Nieman took third in the discus at 134-05 and the shot put at 47-03.
