Madonna's daughter Lourdes Leon has spoken about her growing up with the singer saying that she's a "control freak" who managed her "whole life," leaving Lourdes desperate for independence once she left high school.

Growing up in a celebrity household is likely to be intense so it's no wonder that Madonna's eldest daughter Lourdes Leon has spoken out about the challenge of having such a huge celebrity for a parent, sharing the the Material Girl singer was strict and ran her house to pretty tight rules.

"My mom is such a control freak," Lourdes told Interview magazine. "She has controlled me my whole life. I needed to be completely independent from her as soon as I graduated high school."

Lourdes, who now has a successful modelling career, also revealed that her famous mum insisted that she pay for her own apartment and university tuition, explaining, "We don’t get any handouts in my family.

"Obviously, I grew up with extreme privilege. There’s no denying that. But I think my mom saw all these other kids of famous people, and she was like, “My kids are not going to be like this.” Also, I feel like if your parents pay for things, then it gives them leverage over you."

She also spoke about how protective she is over her mum, referencing a time on holiday when someone asked about Madonna and Lourdes responded by asking about that person's mother.

"It's really funny to me. People are always really taken aback when I say that, because it's like, 'B***h, don’t talk about my mum if you don't want me to talk about your mum. You want to call my mum a w***e? Okay, your mom is a w***e.' If you feel like you have the right to comment on my mother, then I’m going to do the same to you."
