Married at First Sight Australia's Alyssa Barmonde has opened up on a confession from former partner Duncan James that made her feel "insecure".

The couple tied the knot on the popular reality TV series which sees strangers marry after being matched by experts.

Alyssa and Duncan got hitched during the tenth series of the show's Australian spin-off, though things didn't work out between the pair, with Duncan eventually striking up a relationship with fellow contestant Evelyn Ellis.

Since leaving the show, Alyssa took to her Instagram Stories to open up on the couple's relationship and a comment from her former husband that left her feeling uncomfortable.

"So his confession was that all the women he's dated had been really great. He just broke up with them because he has too high expectations. And they showed that at the reunion," she revealed.

"So at the reunion, they showed the little clips of everything - which I didn't watch the reunion - so I don't know what they actually shared. But when we sat down on the couch in real life they showed me being really upset and me feeling really insecure because he kept saying that over and over again."

She said that Duncan said this while the pair were on their honeymoon, and that him repeating the same comment led to the pair having an argument.

Alyssa continued: "He said it at the honeymoon - we had an honesty box and it was like what's something you need to know about the relationship and he's like I have really high expectations.

"So we actually got in a fight because I had an actual confession and I felt his confession was something that I already knew. And then I kind of felt bad because he was putting his heart on the line and he was like: 'That's a real confession'. So I was like: 'Okay I'm really sorry'."

This left Alyssa feeling "insecure" and questioning whether she was "good enough" for her partner to meet his expectations, which played into her own negative perception of dating as a single mother.

"So that was one of the many things that was making me feel insecure in the relationship that nobody saw," she added.

"I was already insecure because why would you want to date a single mother? And now you're saying you have too high expectations and he wouldn't tell me what those expectations are. So it's like how am I ever going to measure up and how am I ever going to know that I'm good enough [for this] guy if he's broken up with all these girls because of his own high expectations."
