Maggie manager moving on

May 20—MAGGIE VALLEY — Longtime Maggie Valley Manager Nathan Clark will be leaving his post in July to accept a position in Richmond Hill, Georgia.

Clark told the Maggie Valley governing board of his decision during a closed session after Wednesday's meeting.

"I told the board there is no good time to say goodbye and no good time to leave," Clark said in a Friday interview.

The Clarks have children in the ninth and seventh grades and one who will soon enter kindergarten. If there was to be a change, it needed to happen pretty quickly, he said, so when the right opportunity came up, he decided it was time to move on.

"I definitely see that Maggie Valley has a lot of good times ahead," Clark said. "The people are fantastic, the UDO and the land-use plans are shaping up, the Soco Road project is out of my hands. This is the third budget year we are debt-free and the town has the lowest ta rate in the county. A lot of things are going great."

Clark joined the Maggie Valley staff in October 2005 as the town planner. He was named the town manager in October 2013.

The board will discuss the process to hire a new town manager at its next agenda-setting meeting on June 7.

Meanwhile, Clark will still be around as he is not starting his new position as the assistant manager of Richmond Hill until Aug. 1.
