Scientists say putting up Christmas decorations early can make you happier. Well, saving money while doing so must really make your jingle bells rock.
It's common knowledge that decorating your Christmas tree can be one of the priciest tasks of the holiday season. From buying ribbons, baubles and lights to investing in that dazzling topper and the plush Fraser Fir, the annual Yuletide tradition can really eat away at your holiday budget.
Well, there's a handy online tool that can help.
The Christmas Tree Calculator uses mathematics to determine exactly how many ornaments you need based on the dimensions of your tree, so there are no stray decorations left over.
Say, for example, you have a 5-foot-tall tree, that's about 3 feet wide and full in shape. The calculator will tell you that you need 74 ornaments for a "natural" or moderate looking tree along with 13-feet of lights.
If you prefer something with that wow factor, the calculator will tell you that you need 246 baubles for a "dense" appearance, and it'll give you a photographic model of what that looks like. It will also tell you how far apart to space the ornaments.
With any design project, there are personal preferences that come into play such as color and how much you're willing to pay for electricity costs. The calculator can't help you there.
But when it comes to aesthetic factors that most people look for, like uniformity, symmetry and proportionality, the Omi Calculator might just be the computer simulated Christmas companion of your dreams.
