Magic sign free-agent guard Mychal Mulder to a one-year deal

The Orlando Magic have signed free agent Mychal Mulder to a two-way contract Tuesday. It’s for one year, a league source told the Orlando Sentinel.

Mulder, a 27-year-old point guard, appeared in 60 games last season for the Golden State Warriors, averaging 5.6 points and 1.0 rebounds per game while shooting 39.7% from 3.

Mulder, 6-3 and 185 pounds, went undrafted out of Kentucky and has played in 67 games during his two-year NBA career, including 9 career starts with the Warriors who qualified for the play-in tournament for the playoffs last season. He scored in double figures 13 times and had 20 or more points in a game three times, including a career-high 28 against the New Orleans Pelicans on May 14.

The signing of Mulder rounds out the roster for Orlando, which can have 15 players plus two two-way contracts. Second-year forward Ignas Brazdeikis is the other two-way.

Two-ways are hybrid deals and for development. Mulder will spend time in the G-League and can be called up to the active roster for maximum of 50 games but has no limits on practices and workouts with the Magic. Before COVID-19 halted play in 2020, there were strict limits on practice time.

The designation gives two-way players higher salaries than other G-League players and prevents other teams from poaching them as free agents. The base salary for a two-way deal for 2021-22 is $84,414.

The Magic (1-3) host the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday at Amway Center with tipoff set for 7 p.m.
