Free ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s and more magical freebies for National Unicorn Day

Free ice cream and unicorns can help make Tuesday a magical day.

April 9 brings together sparkles and freebies with two made-up holidays. It's Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day and National Unicorn Day.

Participating Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shops around the world will give away free ice cream cups and cones from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, the ice cream brand announced in a statement.

The company’s co-founders, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, started the annual tradition in 1979 to thank their local Vermont community for supporting the ice cream shop in its first year.

Expect long lines and big crowds Tuesday as the company plans to serve more than a million free scoops. Although freebie giveaways are usually limited to one per person, the Ben & Jerry's event encourages multiple trips.

Chuck E. Cheese's Unicorn Churros

Chuck E. Cheese’s has Unicorn Churros through June 6 but is offering them for free for the made-up holiday Tuesday with the purchase of 30 minutes of “All You Can Play.”

The regular price is $3.99 and flavors include blue raspberry, sour green apple and cotton candy. It’s also available through delivery with DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub beginning April 8.

There’s also a challenge where kids can help spread the word of “the colorful, whimsical Unicorn Churros by posting a pic with their hair in a unicorn horn using the #UnicornItChallenge.”

More unicorn items

Here are some products to help get you – or your kids – in the made-up holiday spirit:

Build-A-Bear: "In honor of #NationalUnicornDay we're introducing a new Color Craze Unicorn and want everyone to find their unicorn spirit!," Build-A-Bear tweeted Tuesday.

Cereal: There are a couple unicorn-related cereals, plus Lucky Charms has a contest where it is giving away 15,000 "enchanted boxes" of marshmallow-only boxes, which include unicorns. Look for specially-marked Lucky Charms promotion boxes at retail stores nationwide through summer 2019 and inside the box find a code to enter at www.marshmallowonly.com to reveal if you’ve won.

Jell-O Unicorn Slime: In November, the brand announced two edible slimes including the strawberry-flavored Unicorn Slime.

Kraft Macaroni & Cheese: The popular macaroni and cheese now is available in unicorn shapes.

Ice cream: Target's Market Pantry brand has Unicorn Magic Ice Cream and Kroger has Deluxe Unicorn Swirl Ice Cream.

Party favors: Find a large collection of unicorn-themed favors at Party City and Target. Some Dollar Tree stores also stock unicorn items. Also look for some unicorn Easter egg decorations.

Popcornopolis Unicorn Popcorn: The colorful, fruity popcorn is available at participating Costco stores, Costco's website and www.popcornopolis.com.

Pop-Tarts: The special unicorn edition is called "Pop-Tarts Frosted Sparkelicious Cherry."

Sam's Club: A three-tiered unicorn cake serves 66 people for less than $70, the wholesale club says, noting it "isn’t just pretty to look at – it also tastes delicious and won’t cost you a gold horn." Sam's Club also has unicorn floral arrangements including Unicorn Hydrangeas, Unicorn Cushions or Unicorn Spider Mums.

Snack Pack Unicorn Magic: The shelf-stable pudding brand has a Unicorn Magic variety with pink and blue cups. “Each six-pack of these gluten-free pudding cups also comes with temporary unicorn-themed tattoos as an added surprise so kids can proudly show off their Unicorn love,” the company said in a statement.

Walmart: For National Unicorn Day, store bakeries have several unicorn products including Dunk ‘N Crunch with Unicorn Frosting, Marketside Unicorn Cupcakes, a Marketside Unicorn Torte and Unicorn Birthday cakes, available in two-tiered and quarter sheet.

Winn-Dixie and Bi-Lo: The two stores in the Southeastern Grocers' chain have unicorn cupcakes and rainbow bagels while supplies last. The cupcakes are $2.99 for a six-count and the limited-edition bagels are $2.79.

Other Tuesday deals

There are other deals to take advantage of that have nothing to do with Ben & Jerry's and mythical creatures.

Pilot and Flying J Travel Centers: Through Sunday, the travel centers are giving away free breakfast burritos at the 240-plus locations that serve hot food to celebrate the launch of breakfast burritos and the company's new app. Download the app at www.pilotflyingj.com/app or open the app within these dates to find an offer to redeem.

Nothing Bundt Cakes: To celebrate the opening of its 300th bakery, participating bakeries are giving away Confetti Bundtlets or miniature Bundt cakes, at participating bakeries for 300 seconds – or five minutes – on Tuesday, the company announced. The giveaway starts at 3 p.m. local time and locations will give away up to 300 free treats. Limit one per person and no coupon is needed.
