Apr. 7—Magistrate Monica Haenselman has been appointed by the governor's office to fill a Boulder County judge vacancy.

Haenselman, of Boulder, was selected by Colorado Gov. Jared Polis over other finalists Shana Beggan, of Erie and Elizabeth Kelley, of Boulder.

The vacancy was left by the death of Judge Kristy Martinez.

"Governor Polis sends his condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the Honorable Kristy Martinez," the governor's office said in a statement.

Haenselman has been a 20th District Court Magistrate since 2015, and her docket consists primarily of criminal, family and juvenile matters.

Prior to that, Haenselman was a family court facilitator in the 20th Judicial District, an associate attorney at LaBuda and Associates, a paraprofessional at Summit Middle School and associate attorney at Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal in Chicago.

Haenselman earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1985 and her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1991.
