Magnitude 5.3 Texas earthquake felt in New Mexico
CARLSBAD -- A magnitude (M) 5.3 earthquake reported around 4:30 p.m. was felt throughout southern New Mexico and as far north as Albuquerque.
The quake was centered near Midland, Texas according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
I felt it on the 3rd floor of Skeen Hall at NMSU.

It is the latest of a series of earthquakes near the Texas/New Mexico border.
In November a M 5.3 earthquake was also felt in southeastern New Mexico which was centered in Toyah, Texas. That quake caused damage to a building in San Antonio.

Since 2020, the USGS reported there were 31 earthquakes of M 4 or higher reported throughout the Permian Basin region spanning from southeast New Mexico to the Midland-Odessa area of West Texas.
My office building in uptown Albuquerque was shaking a couple minutes ago. It almost felt like an earthquake. Anyone else felt something?
