Magnuson tabbed as new Jacksonville library director

The Jacksonville Public Library board of trustees has selected a new director.

Jake Magnuson, who has worked at the Illinois State Library in Springfield for the last seven years, will take over the top spot on Aug. 15.

Magnuson, 44, has most recently worked in the library development group as a consultant for public libraries.

Magnuson succeeds Chris Ashmore who resigned due to health reasons in February. Ashmore had worked at the library since 1999.

Before going to the Illinois State Library, Magnuson was a reference and public services librarian in the Henry Pfeiffer Library at MacMurray College in Jacksonville. MacMurray closed its doors in 2020.

Magnuson also worked in the Daniel Boone Library System in Columbia, Missouri.

Magnuson earned a bachelor of arts degree in English and a master’s degree in library science from the University of Missouri. He lives in Jacksonville.

The Jacksonville Public Library is a city tax-supported facility.
