Mahoning County dog licenses on sale now

Mahoning County's Auditor's Office has announced dog licenses are on sale through Feb. 28.

Licenses renewed during this time are $20. Licenses renewed after Feb. 28 will run $40, which includes a $20 penalty per license.

Current dog owners will receive a renewal application in the mail, but it is the dog owner’s responsibility renew.

Dogs acquired after Feb. 28 also must be licensed. Three-year licenses are available for $60, and lifetime licenses can be purchased for $200.

No COVID-19-related extension was given this year by the State of Ohio.

Licenses may be renewed online at mahoningcountyoh.gov/840/Dog-License, and via mail to Mahoning County Auditor's Office, 120 Market St., Youngstown OH 44503. A fee of 2.4% of the transaction ($1.49 minimum) is charged when purchasing your license online.

Licenses also can be obtained at the county auditor's office, at the address listed above; the County Dog Warden's Office, 1230 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown OH 44509; in Sebring at Leonard Hardware Co., 145 N. 15th St.; and in Canfield at Agland Co-op, 364 Lisbon St., and Angels for Animals, 4750 State Route 165.

If a resident receives a notice for a dog that has passed away or they no longer own, they should notify the Auditor’s Office through their website or by phone.

To ensure dogs are registered, the Dog Warden’s Office will be canvassing neighborhoods throughout Mahoning County beginning April 15.
