Main Street Morgantown board votes to stay with Morgantown Area Partnership

Oct. 25—MORGANTOWN — Main Street Morgantown has officially joined the Morgantown Area Partnership.

A.J. Hammond, president of the Main Street Board of Directors, said the nonprofit's board voted unanimously on Oct. 19 to make permanent its management agreement with The Partnership, which took over the administration of Main Street on an interim basis following the departure of former Executive Director Barbara Watkins in July.

Hammond said the board's vote reflects the working relationship established over the last three months as well as the trust the body has in The Partnership going forward.

"Really we have the same mission. At Main Street, our mission is to create a vibrant downtown. They're trying to create a vibrant county, bringing jobs and investment to Mon County and that's exactly what we're trying to do downtown. So we have exactly the same mission and there are a lot of the same key stakeholders that we're working with, " Hammond said. "It really is just a natural fit."

Amy Loomis is Main Street's new executive director after three months serving in an interim capacity.

The Partnership, formed in 2019, is made up of the Morgantown Area Chamber of Commerce, the Monongalia County Development Authority, the Campus Neighborhoods Revitalization Corp. (Sunnyside Up), and the Morgantown Area Economic Partnership.

Hammond said the initial one-year agreement with The Partnership will put Main Street in line to renew at the same time as the other member organizations.

"We're just really excited about it. The last three months have been beneficial to downtown and we're optimistic about this relationship going into the future, " he said.
