Maine blueberries on a pizza? Absolutely! New restaurant and brewery opening in Ogunquit

Greetings! Happy summer to you.

This past week brought more than the solstice and the longest day of the year. Here on the Coast Star beat, it also brought a sneak peek at a new local brewery, a Maine Supreme Court decision regarding a high-speed police chase a couple of years ago, and an interview with two women who are making a difference in the fight against pancreatic cancer - to name just three examples.

Here's what we have for you in this week's installment of your Coast Star Connection . . .

On Tuesday, June 22, co-owner Brad Moll gave me a tour of his new Brickyard Hollow Brewing Company at 335 Main Street in Ogunquit. The restaurant and brewery, which specializes in craft pizzas and craft beers, is slated to open on Friday, July 1, just in time for Independence Day weekend. Wondering what it looks like inside? Developer says new homes will help address a need in Wells

This past winter, Seacoast Acquisitions presented Chick Crossing Village, its vision for 20 new homes, to the town of Wells. Currently, the proposal is working its way through the town's planning process. To find out why developer Jason LaBonte considers his proposal good for Wells, as well as when he hopes to break ground and complete the project on Chick Cross Road, click here.

Maine Supreme Court weighs in

Earlier this week, the Maine Supreme Court affirmed an earlier legal decision that allows a lawsuit, filed by two victims of a chase-related collision in 2020, to move forward against the Wells Police Department. To come to their conclusion, the justices had to reach for the dictionary - three dictionaries, to be exact. To find out why, click here.

Taking on cancer, one step at a time

When we suffer a loss and are struggling with grief, we have a choice: sink or swim. This week, I interviewed two widows, one from Kennebunk, Maine, and another from Rye, New Hampshire, who decided to swim when they each lost their husbands to pancreatic cancer. To learn what they are doing - and what they call themselves - to help the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, click here.

Voters OK comp plan, zoning requests, and more

Last week, we reported on the election results of Kennebunk's annual town meeting. Now here are the results of several measures that Kennebunk voters approved that will accommodate private projects, pave the way for public improvements, and provide a guidebook for the future of the community.
