Maine woman carried down Rattlesnake Island after fall

Aug. 29—Rescuers carried an injured 50-year-old woman down the Rattlesnake Island trail on Lake Winnipesaukee Saturday afternoon.

Fish and Game officials said Jeannine Wender of Saco, Maine, injured her ankle after she slipped and fell near the summit of the island just after 2 p.m. Friends called 911 because she was unable to put weight on the ankle and walk.

Alton and Gilford's fire departments requested Fish and Game and Lakes Region Search and Rescue for additional manpower.

Wender was carried down the trail where the Alton Fire Rescue boat was waiting to bring her to a local hospital.
