Major crash on US 41 in Palmetto seriously injures 3, temporarily closes all lanes

Two Palmetto teens and a man were seriously injured in a crash that shut down all lanes of U.S. 41 in Palmetto on Friday afternoon, and someone was flown to a hospital via helicopter.

At 12:10 p.m., a 15-year-old and 16-year-old were traveling together south on U.S 41 Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release, when a 67-year-old Palmetto man ran the stop sign on Bayshore Road and crashed into the front of the teens’ car.

All three people involved in the crash suffered serious injuries.

The Manatee County Government of Public Safety Department tweeted a video of the scene, where a helicopter had landed for medical transport.

At 12:26 p.m., the Highway Patrol alerted drivers that all lanes of U.S. 41 near Bayshore Road were closed for a wreck.

The north and south lanes are were cleared by about 2 p.m. while first responders remain in the median.

Drivers should expect delays in the area of the crash.
