Fire guts family-owned furniture store in Lincoln; 60 firefighters contain the blaze

A fire tore through a furniture store late Thursday night in Lincoln, gutting the inside and destroying the business.

Fire Chief Richard Andrews said the four-alarm fire broke out at about 11:30 p.m. at Knock On Wood Furniture at 1661 Lonsdale Ave. It took about 90 minutes for roughly 60 firefighters to get the blaze under control. No one was injured.

As of Friday morning, the fire was still burning in the basement. Andrews could not send anyone in, however, because the building was structurally unsafe. Andrews said it was to be demolished once gas lines could be shut off on the street. Demolition was expected to start around noon.
