Majority of nighttime pedestrian fatalities occur in downtown & east Bakersfield: Study

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Bakersfield law firm Chain Cohn Clark released a new analysis on the nationwide rise of pedestrian deaths.

According to recent statistics, more than 1,300 crashes involving pedestrians happened in Bakersfield from 2012 to 2023. Most of the pedestrian crashes were between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Majority of those crashes took place in the downtown and east Bakersfield area. The law firm said the findings underscore the need to re-evaluate road safety measures and signal a vital need for change.

By KGET’s count, there have been 10 pedestrian deaths in Kern County so far in 2024.
