'This Makes Me Furious': Tube Driver's Anger at Packed Carriages

Packed carriages could still be seen on the London Underground on March 24, despite Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s issuing of a stay-at-home order the night before. Richard Gray, a train driver on the service, said he was “furious” at what he saw.

Gray told Storyful he recorded this video of the jammed carriage of a Jubilee line train at North Greenwich station on March 24.

The measures announced by Johnson during a televised address on March 23 dictated that individuals could only leave their homes for “very limited purposes”: shopping for groceries, getting medical care, travelling to and from work if it cannot be done at home, and one form of exercise per day – either alone or with a member of your household.

Johnson also announced the closure of all shops selling “non-essential goods”, and the banning of public gatherings of more than two people, including weddings and baptisms.

He added: “If you don’t follow the rules the police will have the powers to enforce them, including through fines and dispersing gatherings.”
