Makeup Artist Patrick Ta Shares His Favorite Bold Lipsticks to Brighten Up Your Winter

With over one million followers on Instagram and a client roster that reads like an exclusive guest list, 28-year-old Patrick Ta is the wunderkind of the celebrity makeup world. And as he rang in his birthday alongside Gigi and Bella Hadid, the pro–who just five years ago was working at a M.A.C Cosmetics counter in Arizona, told PEOPLE about his big next steps.

“I’m launching my own makeup brand, and it’s a dedication to all the women that have been in my life and helped me get to where I am today,” Ta tells PEOPLE. “I wanted this makeup to allow women to feel confident and beautiful in their own skin.”

While Ta wasn’t ready to share too much about his line just yet, he did tell us one special detail. Not only did he team up with Moët & Chandon to celebrate his birthday (check out his personalized bottle of the brand’s new limited-edition Living Ties Rosé Imperial Champagne!) but he’ll include a bottle of Moët & Chandon in each of his press packages to “symbolize the celebration.”

But the makeup artist is always up for sharing makeup tips, so after an evening of toasting with his own custom Moët Rose Glow cocktail (a mix of Moët & Chandon Living Ties Rosé Impérial, vodka, Pinot Noir and muddled strawberries), the pro shared his favorite vibrant lip shades to liven up your winter.

Get the Look: BareMinerals BAREPRO Longwear Lipstick in Blackberry, $20; ulta.com

Why Patrick Loves It: “I love using a plum lipstick because it’s a really bold statement. It’s not something that you would wear every single day, but if someone is going to a event and they want to make more of a statement, this deep, Burgundy plum is something I would use. For a glossy bold lip, you always want to take a napkin to your finger and dab it right in the center so the gloss doesn’t go outside your lips.”

Gigi Hadid

Get the Look: Maybelline New York Made For All by Color Sensational Lipstick in Red For Me, $7.49; ulta.com

Why Patrick Loves It: “She wears colorful lipsticks pretty often, so she wasn’t scared to try this orange-red. She can pull it off since she’s blonde. Just make sure to exfoliate the lips and apply a lip balm beforehand” for an even, flake-free finish.

Olivia Munn

Get the Look: Shisedo Modern Matte Powder Lipstick in Night Life and Exotic Red, $26 each; sephora.com

Why Patrick Loves It: “Olivia always loves trying colors depending on what outfit she’s wearing. And when I am doing a bold lip for a red carpet, I always try to make sure it has a matte finish because it photographs better than if it’s shiny and I don’t worry that it will smear.”

Constance Wu

Get the Look: Becca Ultimate Lipstick Love in Merlot, $24; sephora.com

Why Patrick Loves It: “This red has a bit more of a burgundy, fuchsia undertone to it — like a wine. The velvet texture was great because she knew she would be talking a lot, and she didn’t want her lips to get too dry.”
