Makeup Artist Sweetmutuals Creates Colorful Beauty Routines on Instagram
Take a scroll through the Instagram account of sweetmutuals, and you'll see everything from makeup inspired by athletic brands to eyelids artistically dotted in purple glitter. The makeup artist has quickly gone viral, racking up thousands of likes for beauty routines that are both stunning and artistic.
As sweetmutuals, who goes by the name Ali, explained to Teen Vogue, her looks are inspired by a lifelong love of art and style. "I used to play in my mother's makeup when I was a child," she said. "I used to see beautiful black women in magazines with bright color lipsticks looking like goddesses, and at the time, I was really insecure and those women helped me to feel comfortable being black."
She continued, explaining how that childhood experience propelled her to start posting her looks on social media. "I wanted to help other black people feel beautiful," she said. "I do creative makeup to show that black is beautiful and we can also be avant-garde and editorial."
According to Ali, some of her favorite looks that she's done include a sky featuring the Nike symbol and a watercolor piece that looked like string.
She estimates that each of her routines takes a little more than one hour to create. There are plenty of products she relies on for the various looks, but her must-have makeup includes Fenty Pro Filt’r Foundation, Duo Lash Glue to make sure string, glitter, and spare pieces stick, and highlighters from Shop Angelic Beauty.
As for any aspiring makeup artists, Ali has some words of encouragement when it comes to following your creative dreams. "Don’t be afraid," she said. "You will always have fear in trying new things, but don’t let anxieties stop you from creating something wonderful."
