Making ice cream from fresh snow is a thing. This is how to do it

Snow cream, an ice cream-like treat, literally uses frozen precipitation as an ingredient. It’s a relatively simple recipe made up of stuff you likely already have in the kitchen, perfect for avoiding a treacherous trip to the store.

Here’s how to make it:

Snow cream recipe

To make snow cream, combine 2 1/2 quarts of clean, white snow with a half cup of milk, cream or evaporated milk; 1 teaspoon of vanilla and 1 cup of sugar.

Stir gently to avoid over-packing the snow, and you’ll have an easier time keeping the snow from melting if your ingredients are cold.

You can add some flavor to your snow cream by mixing in sweet treats such as chocolate chips or fruit.
