We’re making a list. . .of holiday events in the Myrtle Beach area

With Christmas quickly approaching take a break from the hustle and bustle of shopping, decorating, wrapping and baking and enjoy some of the holiday events that are taking place in the Myrtle Beach area.

We kick off with Christmas parades, which include floats, firetrucks and, yes, Santa Claus, will travel down many of the main streets and delight residents with magical appearances.

But, it’s not the only holiday-themed celebration planned for this month.

Here’s a look at a few to visit around Horry County:

Town of Surfside Beach Christmas Tree Lighting Festival: Surfside Beach will be hosting their annual Christmas Tree lighting on Friday, Dec., 2 at 9 p.m. in front of the Town Hall, 2201 S Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach, The Christmas Tree Lighting Festival event features music, vendors, food, and a visit from a certain jolly elf.

North Myrtle Beach Christmas Parade: Taking place on Saturday, Dec., 3 at 5:30 p.m. This annual nighttime parade will begin at 2nd Avenue North and proceed South to Main Street where it will turn right onto Main Street and travel to Ye Olde Kings Highway turning right to conclude the parade. Parade entries will be judged and awarded and a special guest announcer will be at the end of the Horseshoe on Main Street and Ocean Blvd.

Broadway at the Beach: “A Very Broadway Christmas Parade”: Will take place on Saturday, Dec., 3 at 11 a.m. at 1325 Celebrity Circle, Myrtle Beach. The parade will begin at Dave & Buster’s on the 29th Avenue North side of Broadway and will travel through Broadway at the Beach ending near WonderWorks. After the parade, there will be free activites for children from 12:30 to 3 p.m. in the Center Court near Build-A-Bear and It’s Sugar. Watch for a special visit with Santa. Who knows there may be some snow falling, which will fall for 15 minutes, on the hour between 2 and 7 p.m. daily in Center Court. A fireworks extravaganza will begin at 8 p.m.over Lake Broadway.

Murrell’s Inlet Christmas tree lighting: Will take place on Saturday, Dec., 3 at 3 p.m. at Morse Park Landing, 4939 U.S. 17 Business, Murrells Inlet. This annual Christmas tree lighting will have a special appearance by both Santa and Mrs. Claus. There will be children’s activities and crafts, music, and tree lighting.

Rivertown Regatta Christmas Boat Parade: This annual Boat Parade which will take place on Saturday, Dec., 3 at 5 p.m. at Elm Street in Conway. The Rivertown Regatta includes boats of all sizes decked out in their holiday best.

Murrell’s Inlet Christmas Parade: This annual Christmas Parade will take place on Sunday, Dec., 4 at The Murrell’s Inlet Marshwalk at 3 p.m. The parade begins at Wilcox Avenue and continues to Wachesaw Road along U.S. 17 Business.

Conway: Under the lights 5K: Taking place in Downtown Conway, 4th Elm St., Conway, on Wednesday Dec., 7 at 6 p.m. this run/walk will be through a light guided course with light displays and festive features. You can come dressed in your favorite holiday attire for photo’s and a costume contest will have awards for the top 3 best in costume. Don’t forget to bring your four legged friends(dogs must be leashed) in costume for a l-mile walk with Santa through the Christmas Village at the Marina.

Conway Christmas Parade: The Conway Christmas Parade will take place on Saturday, Dec., 10 at 10 a.m. The parade kicks off at 16th Avenue and will end at 4th Avenue and Powel Street.

Surfside Beach Christmas Parade: Will take place on Saturday, Dec., 10 at 2 p.m. at the Surfside Beach Pier, the parade travels up Ocean Blvd. S. from Melody Lane to Surfside Dr. From Ocean Blvd., the parade turns up Surfside Dr. and ends at Surfside Dr. and Poplar Dr.

Rivertown Christmas Celebration, Conway: The Rivertown Christmas Celebration will be held every Thursday beginning Dec. 1 through Dec. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec., 1 the lighting of the City of Conway Christmas tree. The shops of downtown Conway will be open till 8 p.m. each Thursday to welcome shoppers and get that special someone crossed off your list. Santa will be present each Thursday before heading back to the north pole on Dec. 22 for that special night. Window shopping takes on a whole new meaning on Dec. 8 “Living Window” where Downtown Conway merchants create interactive shop windows with live actors.
