Two men fatally shot Wednesday in Baltimore: ‘I don’t know how people hate each other, kill each other’

Two men died in separate Wed. Dec. 21 afternoon shootings in Baltimore, police said.

One man died Wednesday afternoon after being shot several times in the upper body in downtown, Baltimore Police said in a news release.

At approximately 2:49 p.m., Central District patrol officers responded to the unit block of South Howard Street to investigate a reported shooting, police said.

Officers located a man victim suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body. The victim was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff, the release said.

On Tues. Dec. 27, Baltimore Police identified the victim as Dominick Williams, 36.

Traffic was closed at West Baltimore and South Eutaw streets, then reopened shortly before 5:30 p.m.

The southbound light rail was running on the northbound track Wednesday afternoon.

Commuter Kisha Howard said she was unsurprised to see the crime scene across the street, where a bloodstain was visible on the sidewalk.

“It’s Baltimore,” said Howard, who takes the light rail from her job at the state Board of Education to her home in Northwest Baltimore. She lives in Mount Washington near Park Heights where multiple people were shot one weekend earlier in December.

“I don’t really feel safe anymore,” Howard said. “You’re trying to help these kids and you can’t even get safely to your car.“

Berhanu Wurseno of York, Pennsylvania, was waiting for the light rail Wednesday afternoon as police investigated the shooting near the station. Wurseno blamed the shooting on the drug trade.

”I want peace for the community,” he said. “I don’t know how people hate each other, kill each other.”

Police arrived at the corner of Saint Charles and Belvedere avenues, where the Woodmere and Arlington neighborhoods meet, at about 5 p.m. An ambulance took the victim to Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police identified the victim Tues. Dec. 27 as Howard Carter.
