Will malls be open on Labor Day? What about ABC stores? What’s open & closed in Charlotte

Ahead of Labor Day, there are several city offices and businesses that will be closed during the long weekend.

While many will be closed on Monday for the holiday, there are some that will still be open with varying hours.

Here’s a list of what will be open and closed in the Charlotte area on Sept. 4.

ABC stores

According to the ABC Commission of North Carolina, Labor Day is one of the holidays when no ABC store shall be open and no ABC store employee shall sell alcoholic beverages.

Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS)

The CATS Call Center, lost and found, pass sales and information office at the Charlotte Transportation Center will be closed Monday. Normal operating hours will resume on Tuesday. All CATS transit including bus, rail and paratransit services will operate on a Sunday schedule on Labor Day. CATS will also have a shuttle service from Cornelius Park to Ramsey Creek Park beach at Lake Norman from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. from Saturday through Monday.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools

There will be no school on Monday for CMS schools, according to the 2023-2024 academic calendar.

Grocery and retail stores

While several businesses will be closed on Labor Day, some will be open for shoppers. RetailMeNot rounded up a list of retail and grocery stores open that will be open on Monday:

Northlake Mall: Open Monday 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

SouthPark Mall: Open Monday 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

Mail services

In observance of the holiday, United States Postal Service offices will be closed on Labor Day.

Mecklenburg County services

According to the Mecklenburg County website, all offices and services will be closed on Labor Day.
