“Mama Bears” documentary at Backdoor Theatre Saturday

A screening of “Mama Bears” a documentary by Daresha Kyi will be this Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Backdoor Theatre, 501 Indiana Ave.

“Mama Bears” is an intimate and thought-provoking look at the journey of Sara Cunningham and Kimberly Shappley – two “mama bears” whose love for their own LGBTQ+ children has turned them into fierce advocates for the entire queer community. The movie also features Tammy Terrell Morris, a young Black lesbian whose struggle with self-acceptance exemplifies why these mama bears are so important.

Cunningham, the Free Mom Hugs founder who is featured in the film, will be at Backdoor for the screening.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show will begin at 6:30 p.m. The movie is approximately 90 minutes.

The movie is free must tickets must be reserved due to limited seating.

The show is hosted by Free Mom Hugs of Wichita Falls and North Central Texas.
