New ‘Your Mama’s Kitchen’ Podcast Debuts with Michelle Obama as First Guest

Former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s media company, Higher Ground, has announced a new podcast called , “Your Mama’s Kitchen: Conversations From The Heart of The Home.” It is produced in collaboration with Audible. The podcast is “about cuisine and culture, ingredients and identities, and the meals and memories that make us who we are,” according to a press release.

About “Your Mama’s Kitchen”

The podcast is an Audible Original, hosted and executive produced by Emmy and Peabody award-winning journalist Michele Norris. Throughout each episode, Norris and her guests will delve into how their earliest experiences in the kitchen shaped their lives growing up. Each guest comes on the show with a recipe for a favorite dish from their youth, in order to give listeners a taste of their story.

Norris opens each episode with the prompt, “Tell me about your mama’s kitchen.” This allows the guest to open up and dig deeper into the memories and cultures that came from their childhood kitchen.

“I have always wanted to do a podcast centered around the question: ‘Tell me about your mama’s kitchen,’” Norris said in a statement. “That query cues up all kinds of interesting threads and because of that, this show is not just about food or standing at the stove. These conversations tap into emotion, identity, nostalgia, family dynamics and cultural tumult.

Norris added that she thinks of the kitchen as a place where people often laugh and fight the loudest.

“It’s a space that shapes us in so many important ways and that is why that simple question — ‘Tell me about your mama’s kitchen’ — is such a delicious way to kick start a deep and revealing conversation,” Norris said.

New episodes of “Your Mama’s Kitchen” will be released weekly. Each episode will first live exclusively on Audible for two weeks. It will then be available on all podcast streaming platforms. Guests include names like Kerry Washington, Gayle King, and D-Nice. The podcast kicked off August 16 with Michelle Obama as the first guest.
