There are a few reasons I like to watch old shows, especially if I've seen the particular show before. One reason is I know if I liked it before, I'll like it again. If it's a series, there's a good chance I'll enjoy an episode I haven't seen before.

I've started watching episodes of shows that are in syndication but that I didn't watch when the show was first on. But what started these thoughts is watching a cartoon called, "Rocky and Bullwinkle." I hadn't seen this set of episodes. I discovered Rocky's full name -- Rocket J. Squirrel.

If my name was Rocket, I wouldn't want people to call me Rocky. I would want to be called Rocket. Don't you think that's a groovy name? The two villains of the show are Boris Badinoffsky and Natasha. I might not have spelled Boris' last name correctly.

Another cartoon I've watched before that I like to watch over again is, "Count Duckula." The funny thing about this concept is the count is supposed to be a vampire; however, Duckula is a vegetarian. His butler, Igor, keeps trying to make him mean as benefits a count. His nanny, Nanny, indulges the count and calls him, "Duckyboos."

I like to watch the original "Batman" TV show with Adam West. There was also at least one movie. My favorite line in the movie is at the end when Batman looks at Robin and says, "Let's leave ... inconspicuously." Then they jump out the window and, using their batropes, climb down down the outside wall of the building. Inconspicuiously, indeed.

When I watch an old Nero Wolfe or Agatha Christie show or an episode of Burn Notice, Magnum PI, Cagney and Lacey, Columbo, or Barney Miller I know good will win in some fashion or another.

Sometimes, justice happens after many efforts on the part of a variety of individuals working together. Sometime, at least in shows, plays, books and movies, justice occurs because of happenstance or the incompetence of the villains.

Of course, I know the truth -- it's how the writers resolved the situations. At least, the thinking part of my brain tells me that, while part of my mind tells me this is how things are. I don't particularly care for any entertainment that doesn't happen this way.

As I said before, I think the main reason I like old shows is that I know the good guys will win. I like that. I like knowing Rocky and Bullwinkle will somehow outwit Boris and Natasha, that the Count will overcome his alltime enemy and vampire hunter Dr. Von Goosewing the mad scientist, and Batman and Robin will thwart the evil efforts of Catwoman, the Riddler, the Joker and the Penguin.

I like to know good triumphs, always. That's the way it should be.
